Job description

NPL is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join the team responsible for maintaining the organisation's security. The role involves implementing technical controls from endpoints to the cloud, supporting operational activities, enabling project delivery, and managing vulnerabilities through patch and lifecycle management across diverse systems in a corporate and scientific environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review and act upon security alerts generated by tooling.
  • Monitor the environment for potential threats, vulnerabilities, and indicators of compromise.
  • Serve as an escalation point within the security team, providing assistance and mentoring.
  • Contribute to the development of SOC procedures and documentation.
  • Assist with remediation activities.
  • Understand and utilize Threat Intelligence.
  • Create workflows for automation tools.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to commute to the UKTL offices in Birmingham at least twice a week.
  • Experience with security tooling such as SIEM, IDS, and Vulnerability Management.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and security architecture.
  • Strong familiarity with Windows and Linux OS.
  • Experience working within a hybrid Azure environment and securing multi-site IT environments, including remote/mobile devices.
  • Must have or be able to obtain an SC security clearance.
