About the Role

Join our Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as a Multiskilled Operative at our Off‑site Solutions (OSS) manufacturing facility in Birkenhead, and build something to be proud of. You will support the production and assembly of high‑integrity ductwork, pipework, and associated systems in a controlled factory environment, ensuring work is completed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Operate and maintain a variety of fabrication and assembly equipment (e.g., cutting machines, welding gear, forming tools, pressure testing rigs).
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, manufacturing specifications, and work instructions to fabricate and assemble products accurately.
  • Undertake tasks across multiple disciplines: ductwork fabrication (rectangular/circular sections), pipework preparation & assembly (carbon steel, stainless steel), mechanical fitting & assembly, basic welding & tack welding (as qualified), quality control checks & documentation.
  • Carry out pressure and leak testing (hydrostatic, pneumatic) where required.
  • Assist with the rigging and movement of large components and modules using lifting equipment.
  • Support lean manufacturing principles, including 5S, continuous improvement, and waste reduction.
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety and housekeeping at all times.
  • Record and report non‑conformities and contribute to root cause analysis.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, QA, and logistics teams to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Take part in training and cross‑skilling to enhance team flexibility and capability.

  • Understanding of HSE procedures and quality standards in a production setting.
Desirable Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in a relevant trade (e.g., Engineering, Fabrication & Welding, Pipefitting).
  • CSCS / CCNSG / Safety Passport (as applicable).
  • Forklift, overhead crane, or MEWP certifications.
  • Welding or brazing qualifications (e.g., coded welder).
