Job description
About the role

Our Customer Delivery Driver role offers pay starting from £13.35 an hour. Additional payments may apply depending on location.

It is our policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week. If you’d prefer to work fewer hours, a minimum of 12 hours is available, and we’d still love to hear from you.

The role involves being the face of Tesco out on the road, delivering customer shopping and providing high levels of service with a smile. You’ll meet and talk to customers in their homes every day, and the role is about more than just driving.

The availability window describes the periods of time in the week we’d like you to be available to work. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times and give you 3 weeks notice of your shifts. We are flexible if your available times don’t exactly match what is advertised, and we’d still like to hear from you.

Customers are at the heart of everything we do.

You will be responsible for
  • Delivering your part of our customer shopping trip by keeping the van and trays clean, tidy and organised.
  • Leaving the back yard clean, tidy and clear of rubbish, and picking up litter as you see it.
  • Ensuring trays are washed as part of the tray wash process.
  • Loading the van as required and checking the van for roadworthiness.
  • Talking to the customer about any changes to their order, including substitutions, and offering a refund for anything they are unhappy with.
  • Taking care of products and deliveries as if they were your own.
  • Explaining to the customer that substitutions will not incur additional charges.
  • Delivering during the customer’s time slot and calling the customer before arriving if you are early.
  • Calling the store/centre if you are running 30 minutes or more late.
You will need
  • Build relationships with colleagues to create team spirit and work together to make the store the best it can be for customers.
  • Be warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues, taking time to understand the customer and say thank you.
  • Act quickly to respond to changing customer needs and embrace change within the store.
  • Be energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations, balancing home and work to suit you.
  • Share ideas with your Manager and colleagues on how to improve the store for customers.
  • A valid UK/EU/EEA driving licence (full or automatic) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
What’s in it for you?
  • Holiday allowance starting at 20 days plus a personal day, rising to 22 days after 12 months (plus Bank holidays).
  • Ability to request flexible working from day one.
  • Colleague discounts: 10% off and 15% at pay day weekends with the Colleague Clubcard; an additional card to share with family.
  • Free wellbeing resources to support mind, body and life.
  • Life cover of five times your pay and an award-winning pension with matching contributions up to 7.5%.
  • Benefits to suit you, including discounts, shares and cycle-to-work schemes.
  • Uniform provided and policies to support you through life’s moments, big and small.
  • Access to colleague networks for diverse backgrounds and inclusive recruitment.
