The postholder will provide direct clinical input at Wetherby YOI and offer consultation to two secure childrens homes within the wider secure estate. The role requires close liaison with multi-disciplinary professionals across health, education, social care, and custodial services. You will be working within a supportive multidisciplinary team including Speech and Language Therapists, Psychology, Psychiatry, Mental Health Practitioners and Social Work colleagues.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The post holder will provide specialist psychotherapy skills within a multidisciplinary team and will deliver a high quality clinical service to the users of the service. They will provide highly specialist assessment and intervention while working collaboratively with non-psychology and psychotherapy professionals from other agencies and carers. They will be clinically responsible to a senior clinical psychologist or psychotherapist, with oversight from the clinical lead. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team, observing Trust and National policies and procedures. They will utilise research skills in audit, service development and research relevant to the post. The role includes training, reflection, formulation, consultation and supervision within a developmentally and trauma-informed framework at HMYOI Wetherby.

  • Key responsibilities include:
  • Offer consultation, supervision and training when required by other agencies involved in the psychological, emotional and behavioural well-being of people referred to the service
  • Provide consultation, assessment and intervention in the service
  • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary context
  • Provide assessment and treatment options for people experiencing moderate, severe and complex mental health problems
  • Exercise expert clinical judgement based on the highest standards of evidence-based practice
  • Develop and maintain clinical skills through training, experience and supervision
  • Provide specialist risk assessment and intervention
  • Follow Adult and Child Protection guidelines and liaise with agencies
  • Liaise with the wider professional network in care of the client
  • Discharge planning and autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge
  • Communicate assessment, formulation and treatment plans and evaluate progress
  • Receive regular professional supervision and pursue CPD targets
  • Assist in supervision of Doctoral level trainees and other disciplines
  • Contribute to audit, research, and teaching within the service
  • Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and knowledge of legislation and local policies

The post-holder will be required to work flexibly in terms of base and hours of clinical availability.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential

  • Registered qualification in a core mental health or social welfare profession OR arts-related degree for arts psychotherapy roles
  • Qualifying level course in Psychotherapy or equivalent at Masters level
  • Registration/Accreditation with the relevant professional/accrediting body (e.g. HCPC, UKCP, ACAP, BABCP as applicable)
  • A current driving licence and access to a car during the working day (reasonable adjustments considered for disability)
  • IT literate and able to undertake duties; satisfactory sickness record as required

Special Knowledge & Skills

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of adult and child protection legislation
  • Awareness of legislation relevant to clinical practice
