Job Purpose
To supervise and support students during non-teaching times and/or in the absence of a teacher, ensuring a safe, orderly, and positive environment throughout the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise students in classrooms, corridors, dining halls, playgrounds, and other designated areas during breaks, lunch, or transitions between lessons.
- Maintain good order and discipline, promoting positive behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy.
- Provide cover supervision for classes during short-term teacher absence, ensuring students remain on task with work set by teaching staff.
- Monitor and support students to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Deal promptly with incidents in line with school procedures, reporting issues to the appropriate staff member.
- Assist with the entry and exit of students at the start and end of the school day if required.
- Support the smooth running of school events and activities when needed.
- Build positive relationships with students and staff to create a welcoming, inclusive environment.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Ability to maintain authority and order while building positive relationships with young people.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and school policies.
- Calm and assertive approach when dealing with challenging situations.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational or supervisory setting.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
- First aid training (or willingness to undertake training).
Working Hours
Typically term-time only, with hours aligning to the school day (exact hours negotiable). Flexibility may be required to support before/after-school provision or school events.
