Our client HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice that provides administrative support for the legal system across England and Wales, ensuring justice works for everyone.

Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Court Usher at Reading Courts. This is a full‑time, 37‑hour per week position working 9am – 5pm, with a contract role until end of March 2026 and a possibility of extension. Pay rate is £12.21 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Balance usher and administrative duties, acting as the first point of contact for all court users.
  • Maintain regular contact with the judiciary and assist the administrative staff to ensure a smooth flow of court work.
  • Prepare court/hearing rooms and carry out general clerical work as required to support the work of HMCTS.
  • Meet members of the public, including vulnerable witnesses and their legal representatives, preparing court rooms and documenting court operations to run the court efficiently.
  • React quickly and professionally to unexpected situations while dealing sensitively and professionally with people from all walks of life.
  • Work within a team, receiving regular management support and taking responsibility for personal time management.
