Court of Protection Solicitor | 1+ years’ PQE | Job Ref: 215302068

We are seeking a solicitor with a minimum of one year’s post-qualification experience to represent clients in a wide range of Court of Protection (Welfare) matters.

You will work within a well-regarded Social Welfare Department alongside colleagues specialising in community care, housing, and public law.

A strong commitment to access to justice is essential, as is a solid understanding of the legal aid scheme. Experience with privately funded matters would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing allocated casework promptly and efficiently
  • Analysing legal issues and advising clients on appropriate courses of action
  • Maintaining clear, regular communication with clients and meeting client-care standards
  • Handling routine correspondence, negotiations, and advocacy where appropriate
  • Accurately recording time and ensuring prompt billing and payment recordingEnsuring compliance with all Legal Aid Agency requirements where relevant
  • Keeping up to date with legal developments in your specialist area
  • Completing administrative tasks in line with office procedures to ensure efficient case and billing management
  • Providing supervision to junior colleagues where required, and seeking supervision appropriately
Skills and Experience Required
  • Minimum of one year’s post-qualification experience across a full range of Court of Protection (Welfare) matters, including acting for ‘P’ via a litigation friend or representing family members
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse client base
  • Excellent oral and telephone skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work efficiently under pressure
  • High standard of written communication and strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience working to targets
  • Strong IT skills
  • Commitment to supporting vulnerable clients and promoting access to justice
  • Current practising certificate
  • Experience with Legal Aid funding and CCMS
  • Experience handling privately funded matters
