Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience educated with professional qualification.
  • Experience of accounting / auditing for financial instruments particularly as governed by IAS standards.
  • Understanding of treasury risks and their management through financial instruments.
  • Strong communication skills for dealing with overseas-based operating company accountants.
  • Ability to simplify sophisticated situations and present complex information.
  • Experience with maintaining Excel schedules and improving them.
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure BATIF reporting and treasury notes are completed on time.
  • Assist in producing statutory financial accounts for BATIF Group.
  • Post monthly journals and close BATIF’s general ledger timely.
  • Conduct quarterly analysis of Groups Net Finance Cost.
  • Provide financial instrument accounting advice to Group companies.
  • Prepare hedge documentation for swaps and monitor currency balance sheet.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners including auditors.
  • Assist in forecasting and budgeting of Net Finance Cost.
  • Build capacity of GTO accounting department.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects driven by treasury or statutory accounting teams.

Job purpose and key deliverables

BATIF is the treasury vehicle for the British American Tobacco p.l.c. (the BAT Group). The role holder is responsible for preparation of BATIF group financial and management accounts for actuals and assisting in forecasting and budgeting of the Groups Net finance cost (NFC). In addition the role holder is responsible for preparing BAT Groups treasury related notes for the annual reporting.

Principal Accountabilities
Accounting and Reporting
  • Help ensure that BATIF reporting and Group treasury related notes are completed on time and to a high standard
  • Assist the Senior Corporate Finance Manager in producing statutory financial accounts for BATIF Group and BATOF (total of 3 BAT Group entities statutory accounts)
  • Posting monthly / quarterly journals for BATIF and ensuring timely close of BATIFs general ledger for monthly / quarterly reporting cycle
  • Assisting the Senior Corporate Finance Manager in quarterly analysis of the Groups NFC and related movements in the Groups borrowings cash derivatives and investments held at fair value
  • Working closely with the Treasury department and providing accurate financial instrument accounting advice to BAT Group companies
  • Preparing hedge documentation for swaps and running effectiveness reports Group currency balance sheet and Net Investment Hedge monitoring and ensuring appropriate accounting for such
  • Ensure relevant SOx controls are followed and passed
  • Liaise with internal and external partners including auditors (currently KPMG)
  • Assist the Senior Corporate Finance Manager in forecasting and budgeting of BAT Groups Net Finance Cost
  • Provide assistance and build capacity of GTO accounting department who are based in Romania
  • Involvement in ad-hoc projects driven by the Group treasury team or Group Statutory Accounting team
Business Partner
  • Provide accounting support to Group treasury
  • Support Group tax on financial instrument accounting issues
  • Assist U.S. Treasury company (BATCAP) with hedge accounting in respect of swaps

Essential requirements
  • Degree or equivalent experience educated with professional qualification (CA / ACCA / CIMA / CPA / MBA)
  • Experience of accounting / auditing for financial instruments particularly as governed by IAS 32 IFRS9 IFRS7 and IAS 21 (and UK GAAP equivalents)
  • Understanding of treasury risks and the management of those risks through financial instruments.
  • Communications skills for dealing with overseas-based operating company accountants (helping them with Group reporting requirements) as well as with Treasurers and Dealers.
  • Ability to simplify sophisticatedsituations and synthesise communicate and present complex information
  • Detailed schedules are kept in Excel : ability to maintain change and improve them.
  • Strong Influencing and interpersonal skills
Desirable requirements
  • Understanding of SAP in particular the Treasury module
  • Knowledge of BPC reporting tool
  • Previous experience in using Bloomberg software
