Job summary

A recruitment agency is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to work with a successful client near Birmingham. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in Allen Bradley systems and a deep understanding of control and safety systems. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting control system issues, designing and installing PLCs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC in Controls/Electronic/Instrument Engineering.
  • Strong experience with Allen Bradley systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (BS/IEC 61003, 61131, 61508, 61511, 62443).
  • Proficiency with communication protocols (Ethernet, DH+, Modbus, ProfiNet).
  • Awareness of OT Cyber Security, IIoT, and AI is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve control system issues to ensure smooth operations.
  • Design, specify, and install control and safety systems including PLCs.
  • Manage changes by reviewing proposals and implementing system modifications.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with standards.

Job Title: Control Systems Engineer

Location: Birmingham

SRG are currently recruiting for a Control Systems Engineer to join a successful and growing client based near Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to critical projects and maintenance activities in a fast‑paced industrial environment.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and resolve control system issues to ensure smooth operations
  • Design, specify, and install control and safety systems (including PLCs, BPCS, SIS, DCS, SCADA, HMI)
  • Manage changes by reviewing proposals and implementing system modifications.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners such as suppliers, integrators, and contractors
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all legal and company standards
  • Support training and development within the department.
Criteria
  • Minimum HNC in Controls/Electronic/Instrument Engineering
  • Strong experience with Allen Bradley systems (RSLogix 500, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View)
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (BS/IEC 61003, 61131, 61508, 61511, 62443)
  • Understanding of functional safety, SIL, LOPA, and Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Experience with communication protocols (Ethernet, DH+, Modbus, ProfiNet)
  • Awareness of OT Cyber Security, IIoT, and AI is a plus.
  • Previous exposure to chemical manufacturing, hazardous areas (ATEX), and instrumentation engineering preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar tools.
