Job summary

A leading mechanical design firm in the UK is searching for a Contract Quality Engineer to enhance product robustness from design to ongoing optimization. This role involves working closely with manufacturing teams to address quality issues, utilizing lean tools for analysis like 8D and FMEA, and driving quality improvements throughout the production process. Successful candidates should possess strong problem-solving skills and relevant qualifications in quality engineering. The role offers an immediate start with a 12-month contract.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Quality Engineer with proven quality experience in manufacture.
  • Experience in Root Cause and Corrective Action using 8D or similar.
  • Understanding of quality systems (QMS).

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the operations team on quality issues.
  • Ensure containment and resolution of quality related issues.

Job Title

Contract Quality Engineer

Hours - Monday - Thursday 8-4: 30 Early Finish Friday (with flexibility around start / finish times)

Duration - 12-month rolling contract

Immediate start available

Fantastic opportunity for a Quality Engineer looking to have an impact on product robustness from initial design stage through to ensuring ongoing optimisation of existing products and processes within a leading mechanical design, development and manufacturing organisation.

Working across a key production cell in the business, as Quality Engineer your role will be varied but will have an emphasis on Root Cause Corrective actions (RCCA) and ultimately driving forward product quality and continuous improvement both in design and manufacture.

Key Accountabilities
  • Working closely with the manufacturing operations team on both internal or customer related issues.
  • Ensuring containment of any quality related issues, actioning and successfully resolving.
  • Utilising your strong problem‑solving ability to support either customer or internally flagged investigation through the application of lean quality tools & techniques such as 8D, FMEA, Ishikawa, Pareto analysis and similar.
  • Support quality continuous improvement activities focusing on removing waste and improving overall efficiency.
  • Support Zero Defect Initiative implementation (internal and supply chain).
  • Undertake activities to improve process robustness including Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA), Parts Approval Process (PPAP), RCCA, Root Cause Corrective Action and Manufacturing Process Review (MPR).
Qualifications
  • A qualified Quality Engineer (either HNC / D or with a number of years proven quality experience in manufacture).
  • Experience in the application of lean quality / Root Cause and Corrective Action using 8D, 5 Why’s, Ishikawa or similar.
  • Strong problem‑solving ability.
  • A working knowledge of either ISO9000 / AS9000 / 9001 and quality systems (QMS).
  • Mechanical process experience – assembly, fabrication, metalwork, machining or similar.
  • Regulated industry background, ideally automotive, aerospace or similar.
