Type: Initial 6-Month Contract

Status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)

Rate: £70.00 to £80.00 per hour DOE

Location: Enfield, Greater London - Onsite

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Contract Principal FPGA Design Engineer in Enfield to join a highly experienced engineering team working on advanced electronic systems within a regulated, high-reliability environment.

This Contract Principal FPGA Design Engineer in Enfield role focuses on full lifecycle FPGA design, system architecture and technical leadership across complex multi-FPGA platforms.

The Role:

As a Contract Principal FPGA Design Engineer in Enfield, you will take ownership of FPGA development from early specification through to verified hardware delivery. You will lead complex firmware developments while supporting and mentoring junior engineers.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading VHDL FPGA design from specification to verified hardware
  • Decomposing system requirements into robust FPGA architectures
  • Designing, implementing, testing and debugging FPGA firmware
  • Developing test benches and verification environments
  • Producing technical documentation and supporting firmware releases
  • Conducting FPGA and VHDL design reviews
  • Mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership
  • Validating designs using lab test equipment
  • Owning multiple work packages and reporting progress
  • Occasional UK travel may be required

You'll work closely with Project Managers, Systems Engineers and Technical Leads to deliver mission-critical electronic solutions.

Skills & Experience:
  • 10+ years' experience in FPGA design
  • Strong VHDL design, implementation and debugging experience
  • Experience working on systems with multiple FPGAs
  • Background in Radar, DSP or high-reliability electronic systems
  • Proven delivery to time and budget
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline
