Contentious Probate Solicitor / Associate

About the Role

The successful candidate will manage a broad range of contentious probate and trust matters, working closely with colleagues and external professionals. The work involves high-value estates, complex family dynamics, technical legal challenges, and clients who require both strategic guidance and empathetic support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a varied caseload of contentious probate and trust disputes, including:
    • Challenges to the validity of wills and lifetime gifts
    • Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
    • Disputes between executors, trustees, and beneficiaries
    • Applications relating to the removal or substitution of personal representatives or trustees
    • Drafting and reviewing pleadings, witness statements, and other court documents
    • Conducting mediations and handling settlement negotiations
    • Liaising with counsel, experts, and other professionals
    • Providing clear, empathetic, and strategic advice to clients
    • Supporting junior team members and contributing to their development
    • Identifying opportunities for internal referrals across private client and dispute resolution teams
About You
  • 5+ years PQE with strong litigation experience, ideally within contentious probate or trust disputes
  • ACTAPS membership (or working towards it) is highly desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical ability and sound judgmentHigh level of client care and the ability to manage emotionally sensitive matters
  • Confident in running files from instruction through to resolution
  • Comfortable contributing to business development and relationship-building
