Job description

Are you ready to make headlines? As our Consumer PR Manager, you’ll lead a small, talented team within our busy in-house communications function, shaping how millions of people see our brand. From attention-grabbing campaigns to authentic storytelling, you’ll be working closely with the head of communications to activate the consumer PR strategy - delivering column inches, building brand love, and creating content that gets talked about across multiple channels with a focus on national and online media.

This is your chance to work in a fast-paced, creative environment where ideas matter and results count. If you love turning stories into headlines and campaigns into cultural moments, this role is for you.

Our people are our superpower, and we’re unstoppable when we’re together! We want your ideas to flow, and what better way to make that happen than being based onsite, 5 days a week, where our culture fuels creativity, collaboration and growth. If a £1 bet in the pub between two friends can become the UKs most trusted electrical retailer, imagine what else can be achieved when we we’re together!

Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing
  • Own our media presence: Build and nurture relationships with national press, consumer titles, online media, and influencers - keeping AO front and centre of mind.
  • Lead with creativity: Drive forward AO.com’s consumer PR strategy, driving measurable results and brand awareness.
  • Tell stories that matter: Find and share AO’s news, from exciting product launches, brand sponsorships, partnerships, to our famous customer service, across earned and owned channels.
  • Collaborate for impact: Work closely with content marketing and SEO teams to create engaging content and influencer strategies that boost visibility and rankings.
  • Spot opportunities: Partner with AO’s trade and buying teams to uncover stories, promote key products, and amplify new categories.
  • Activate campaigns: Manage PR elements of trade marketing and brand initiatives from concept to evaluation, aligning with the wider marketing plan.
  • Create compelling content: Write and distribute press releases, pitch stories, and deliver standout coverage, media events and press visits.
  • Stay ahead: Monitor media daily, identify opportunities, commission research, and keep up with trends to ensure AO stays relevant and talked about.
  • Manage resources: Oversee PR budgets, agency relationships, and campaign reporting to demonstrate impact.
A Few Things About You
  • Experience in a fast-paced PR environment (in-house or agency).
  • Are currently in-house or at Account Manager level in an agency, with experience managing a team.
  • Bring exceptional media contacts and selling‑in skills, with a proven track record of securing national coverage.
  • Have a creative streak and fresh ideas for lifestyle campaigns that grab attention.
  • Are a natural storyteller with strong writing skills and an eye for what makes news.
  • Understand SEO and content marketing and how PR can amplify both.

Legal Notice and EEO Statement

We should all feel that we belong. That’s why we’re creating a welcoming and inclusive place to work.

We’re proud to be different. From how we look to the way we talk to our customers, we skip to the beat of our very own drum. We know that being different together is our superpower and we celebrate it because it makes us stronger, more creative, and better at what we do.

We believe the people we employ should reflect the diversity of our customer base; that way, we can communicate in a way that recognises all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, abilities, and sexual orientations.

And that’s why we’re asking these questions. Making sure our recruitment process is inclusive is a key part of what we’re doing at AO to encourage diversity as an employer.

After we’ve collated the data, we’ll look at the patterns to assess if we are inclusive at each stage. If it turns out that we aren’t, then the data may help us identify where we can improve.

The data collated won’t have any impact on your application and is not shared with hiring managers or the recruitment team.

If you experience any issues during your application, please email your CV to careers@ao.com

Thank you for completing your application for the position of Consumer PR Manager.
