Job description
Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic, Upper limb surgeon

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Surgeon within Trauma & Orthopaedics, specialising in Upper limb.

This is a substantive, full‑time, combined trauma and elective position. The successful candidate will be required to provide general orthopaedic trauma and the full scope of trauma and elective shoulder and elbow services at the major trauma centre and the elective orthopaedic tertiary unit.

The elective component of the job is for a specialist shoulder and elbow surgeon including revision shoulder and elbow surgery within the elective tertiary hub. This will include independent and dual surgical operating for complex revision shoulder and elbow arthroplasty as per GIRFT and BESS recommendations for revision hubs. They will also provide acute shoulder and elbow services including an acute subspecialist clinic in combination with the trauma component of the post. The post will involve work on the Queens Medical Centre Campus / Treatment Centre and the Nottingham City Campus. They will join a dynamic and collegiate group of over 26 other T&O consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The job plan will include an on‑call commitment in the orthopaedic trauma unit 1 in 16; a weekly fracture, acute and elective clinics alongside trauma operating lists and full day elective operating lists. The department is a collegiate group with established pathways for mentorship and supervision of new consultants.

  • Senior (ST7 or above) major trauma centre orthopaedic training.
  • Travelling fellowship award from BOA or BESS
  • Specific training in communication skills
