A leading health service provider in Scotland is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist or Specialist Doctor for the Learning Disability Service at New Craigs Hospital. The role involves providing assessment and treatment for adults with learning disabilities, supervising nursing staff, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Candidates must be on the GMC specialist register or nearing certification, with a strong commitment to Learning Disabilities. Hours: 1.0 WTE (40 hours per week)
Consultant salary: £111,430 – £148,064 per annum
Specialist Doctor salary: £100,870 – £111,441 per annum
We seek to appoint an experienced clinician with enthusiasm for Learning Disability Psychiatry to join our team of Psychiatrists in NHS Highland. The Learning Disability service provides assessment and treatment for adults with learning disability throughout Highland. There are Community Learning Disability Nurse Teams based in Inverness, Nairn, Fort William, Skye, Easter Ross, Golspie and Caithness with strong links with specialist LD services in Inverness. These include dietetics, epilepsy specialist nurse, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychiatry, psychology and speech & language therapy. There is joint working with Social Work services and a learning disability nurse based in the SW Joint transitions team.
Inpatient services are provided at New Craigs Hospital in Willows Assessment and Treatment Unit which is a 6‑bedded specialist service for people with learning disability and mental disorder.
Applicants for the Consultant grade must be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview as consideration can be given to appoint on a proleptic basis. This post requires participation in the Consultant on‑call rota at New Craigs Hospital. We also welcome applicants who meet eligibility criteria for the Specialist Doctor. The post would suit a candidate with significant experience in Learning Disabilities who is committed to gaining CCT through the Portfolio Pathway/CESR route. The post will be supervised by a substantive Consultant.
Clinical Director will work to refine the post depending on the circumstances of the successful applicant.
