Main Duties of the Job
Cygnet Hospital Sherwood is a state‑of‑the‑art PICU and acute hospital for men located in Nottinghamshire. The service consists of three wards, including a 12‑bed PICU ward and two 16‑bed acute wards. A multidisciplinary team supports patients requiring rapid access to mental health services, including those who may need an intensive care environment. The facility holds an "Outstanding" CQC rating.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead on the provision of high‑quality care to service users admitted to Cygnet Hospital Sherwood.
- Act as a positive role model, maintaining a constructive attitude towards patients, families, visitors and staff.
- Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
- Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations of service users.
- Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnoses and treatments.
- Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits.
- Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management and embed clinical governance within the service.
- Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managerial hearings, and attend hearings.
- Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfer and leave approval as required.
- Maintain accurate patient records.
- Communicate regularly with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
- Attend academic meetings and adhere to CPD standards set by the GMC, Department of Health and Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Contribute to the telephone on‑call rota as required.
Qualifications
- Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
- Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status.
- Experienced & knowledgeable in relevant specialities.
- Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
- First‑rate communicator capable of interviewing, assessing & treating patients and writing clear, comprehensive medical notes.
- Committed to continued professional development.
- Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
