Job description
Overview

A Vacancy at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust. This is a full-time post in the Coventry Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team providing comprehensive, age independent, acute mental health services. It is a replacement post following retirement.

Organisation and service context

The CRHT service at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust comprises 3 multi-disciplinary teams, based in Coventry, North Warwickshire and South Warwickshire, which work in close collaboration with each other to provide a 24-hour assessment and treatment service. The teams maintain close links with the community and inpatient services to facilitate home treatment as an alternative to admission wherever possible. This is an age integrated service and there are Older Adult consultant psychiatrists and specialty doctors to cater for the needs of older persons.

Post structure and clinical responsibility

The consultant will work alongside another consultant and will be supported by a 1 wte specialist grade doctor at the same base. There are approximately 70 patients in crisis/home treatment care, of varying intensity, at any one time. Clinical responsibility for patient care is spread across the team. Consultant Psychiatrists are only involved in cases requiring their expertise. It is likely that a personal consultant caseload at any one time would be around 15 patients. CRHT services pertaining to this post are provided from the Caludon Centre; however the majority of patient-facing work will occur at the patient’s homes. The post-holder will support the work of the CRHT.

This will include the assessment and home treatment of patients with a wide range of mental health problems in keeping with CRHT policy. The post-holder, in conjunction with supporting medical and other staff, will ensure regular effective review of the care of patients in home treatment – via individual assessments and review meetings. The post holder and his/her medical colleague will attend/lead daily team handovers and will lead the weekly clinical review of CRHT open cases. The post-holder will make themselves available to CRHT workers for consultation regarding patients being assessed and in home treatment. The post-holder will be expected to play a major role in supervision of clinical work by other team members.

The post-holder is expected to be available daily for patient consultation and follow up. The consultant will have a daily (Monday to Friday) presence in the team base and be contactable by the team during working hours (unless formalised cover arrangements are in place). The post-holder will delegate duties to and supervise the work of the junior doctor(s) and will be expected to play a role in supervision of clinical work by other team members.
