A mental health service provider in Birmingham seeks a Consultant to lead a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include ensuring high-quality patient care, participating in clinical governance, and fostering effective communication within the team. The ideal candidate will possess a medical degree and relevant experience in mental health, with strong leadership and communication skills. This is a fixed-term role with potential extension.
The post holder will work with theMedical Director and the Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide the best qualityservices to adults with a primary diagnosis of mental illness in long-termcomplex care settings. The post-holder must understand and implement themission, vision and values of the organisation. This is a 1-year Fixed Term positionwith the possibility of extension.
The Consultant will provide medicalleadership as Responsible Clinician to a multidisciplinary clinical team, within a shared leadership framework in which all MDT members work together. The multidisciplinary team will include Resident doctors, psychologists, occupational therapist, and pharmacist. Others are co-opted at various levels when needed; speech and language therapist, social worker; Podiatrist.
The Consultant will be a senior member of the company, being part of the clinical governance committee and other operational committees as necessary and will have the opportunity to take on specific leadership roles in some aspect of clinical service delivery.
The consultant will also be supported by Specialty Doctor, and dedicated admin time for both clinical admin and any admin related to leadership roles they are involved with.
The post-holder will be expected to proactively support the requirements of Clinical Governance and to have responsibility both individually and with colleagues for the general management of the clinical service. This will include dealing with complaints, information governance, identifying and reporting critical untoward incidents, clinical audit, fostering clinically effective and evidence-based interventions and good quality care to patients.

The post holder will:
Facilitate, promote and supervise education, clinical practice and audit.
Contribute to Quality Governance and attend relevant clinical meetings.
Identify and contribute to others clinical training needs.
Ensure the promotion of issues of equality, diversity and rights in accordance with good practice and legislation.
Ensure effective communication pathways.
Ensuring that the MDT assesses all patients by completing a thorough history, mental state examination, case formulation and physical examination.
Responsible for ensuring the completion of necessary CPA, Managers Hearings and Mental Health Tribunal reports in conjunction with the MDT.
Attend and chair enhanced Care Program Approach meetings, clinical reviews, Managers Hearings, Mental Health Review Tribunals and other clinical meetings considered appropriate.
Provide treatments in line with current guidelines and best practice and review medication and manage monitoring protocols.
Assessment of service user needs with emphasis on collaborative working.
Working with service users and their families and carers, building upon their strengths and abilities.
Assisting in access to a range of rehabilitation therapies and using community resources, vocational training and employment opportunities.
Ensuring monitoring and treatment of comorbidities in conjunction with the primary care services.
Provide leadership to the MDT and getting the best
Liase with all members of the MDT, GPs, relatives and other professional agencies.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely written records are kept which comply with organisational policy and professional guidance, reporting on any issues as appropriate.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring they comply with current good practice in informing/updating all members of the multi-disciplinary team, their colleagues, service users, carers and appropriate others regarding changes in involving current plans of care, change and progress in presentation and wellbeing, mental state and psychosocial factors in line with best practice.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that the MDT clearly communicate with patients and carers, actively listening to establish an understanding of the needs of the service user and their carers.
Responsible for participation in the CPD, appraisal and revalidation process as required by the GMC and Royal College of Psychiatrists, identifying own/others mandatory professional and personal development and training needs.
To participate and contribute appropriately in research, service modernization and clinical governance.
To respect and value the different therapeutic approaches within the multi-disciplinary team but ensure that the agreed philosophy and approach is adopted and followed.
Responsible for ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with current data protection legislation, policies and good practice.
Responsible for maintaining and conducting oneself in a professional manner towards service users, carers, colleagues and other agencies.
Participate in joint working with appropriate experts/agencies.

Participation in Continued Professional Development in order to keep abreast of current best practice and be aware of important developments within the field of medicine.
The post holder will be supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist to ensure annual appraisal of performance is undertaken which includes training needs analysis and personal development plan.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that they contribute and work toward the service/organisational aims and objectives.
The post holder as an individual is required to understand their responsibility for respecting and promoting issues of equality, diversity and rights in accordance with good practice and legislation.
Responsible for reading, understanding and complying with all relevant policies and procedures.
The post holder will:
Attend statutory and mandatory training as necessary as specified by Options for Care Ltd.
Carry out other duties identified by the senior team commensurate with their role as and when required.
The post holder will be required to provide reciprocal cover for colleagues during annual leave, study and short-term sick leave.
The post will include on call responsibilities.
