Job description
Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites application for a Consultant in Neuropathology. The role is centred on the Wessex Neurological Centre which serves over 3 million people. The neuropathology service is part of the Department of Cellular Pathology, which includes paediatric and adult pathology teams.

Responsibilities
  • Provide diagnostic service for neurosurgical biopsies (including intraoperative assessment) and CSF cytology.
  • Diagnose muscle and nerve biopsies and ophthalmic pathology.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings covering adult and paediatric neuro‑oncology, skull base, spinal intradural, pituitary and neuromuscular cases.
  • Share in the provision of the NHS hospital autopsy service and undertake neuropathological examinations on behalf of H.M. Coroner.
Qualifications

Consultant‑grade experience in neuropathology with proven diagnostic skill set. Strong commitment to teaching and research. Experience in multidisciplinary teams and corporate governance. (Detailed person specification document is attached.)
