Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in Greater London is looking for a 6th Consultant Urologist to join their multidisciplinary team. The role involves providing a consultant-led service at North Middlesex University Hospital, engaging in a 1 in 6 on-call rota with daily patient reviews. The position encompasses 10 Programmed Activities, encouraging less than full-time applications. The advert will close on 25 Dec 2025, ensuring continuity of emergency care aligned with London standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a consultant-led service to the population of North Middlesex University Hospital.
  • Participate in the 1 in 6 on-call rota.
  • Review all patients daily by the on-call consultant.
Job description

In response to the increasing emergency demands of patients in the local community and the increasing number of referrals to the cancer pathway and benign conditions, the Trust has invested in a consultant‑led rather than a consultant‑supervised clinical service as well as adhering to the London standards of Emergency care, including daily ward rounds for emergency admissions.

We are seeking to appoint a 6th Consultant within the Urology department to join our multidisciplinary team and provide a consultant‑led service to the population of North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH).

The 6th Consultant Urologists will be taking part in a 1 in 6 on‑call rota with prospective cover. In keeping with London Emergency standards and to maintain continuity of care, all patients will be reviewed daily by the on‑call consultant.

This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (8.5 PAs direct clinical care and 1.5 PAs supporting professional activities). There is an expectation that, by taking on other Trust‑wide Service and Quality roles, one additional SPA will be allocated in place of a DCC, subject to divisional agreement.

Applications for less than full‑time working and job‑sharing would be considered.

Job Plan & Working Arrangements

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their clinical manager in line with the Job Planning Guidelines in force in the Trust. Once agreed with the Clinical Manager, job plans are finally signed off by the Medical Director or delegated Associate Medical Director. An indicative job plan for this post is provided below and will normally be re‑assessed after three months of appointment to ensure it meets the needs of both the applicant and the service. Job plans are reviewed annually, usually following an Appraisal meeting. Applicants are encouraged to study the provisions of the Consultant Contract for England 2003 under which this post is offered.
