Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for full-time Consultant in Rheumatology within a growing, dynamic and forward thinking Rheumatology service at Chelsea & Westminster Foundation Trust. The post will also be joint with London North West University Healthcare Trust (LNWUH) and have dedicated Research sessions with LNWUH in the first 2 years.

The candidate will join a faculty at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital which currently consists of 4 Consultants, a Specialty Doctor and a Specialist Registrar, working with a multidisciplinary team. The appointed individual is expected to uphold the Trust values to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care to patients.

The post holder should have a wide experience of Rheumatology, including management of patients with autoimmune connective tissue disease / vasculitis and osteoporosis as well as inflammatory arthritis and general rheumatology. It is desirable for them to have a Masters or other further degree in a Rheumatology-related subject. They should show keen interest and experience in clinical research and commitment to audit and service improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Outpatient activity: Four full outpatient clinics each week and one short outpatient clinic each week. There are nurse-led clinics including for patient education and disease-modifying drug monitoring, and a pharmacist prescriber to support DMARD prescription. An Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner provides a weekly Spondyloarthritis clinic within the Rheumatology Outpatients.
  • Inpatient activity: Rheumatology patients are admitted under the medical teams, with input from the Rheumatology SPR and Consultants. Rheumatology SPR and Consultants provide advice on rheumatology-related problems in other patients on request.
  • MDT meetings: Attendance with appropriate contribution at radiology/rheumatology MDT and at fortnightly Complex Rheumatology/Connective Tissue Disease/Vasculitis meetings.
  • Departmental meetings: Attendance at weekly Grand Round, Rheumatology Academic Meetings (CPD) and Governance Meetings.
  • Clinical duties: Participate in outpatient care and inpatient support; participate in the GIM rota; facilitate access to a full range of inpatient and outpatient Rheumatology services; cover for absent colleagues to allow for annual and study leave; support discharge planning and follow-up arrangements; contribute to education and professional development of trainees; support training and appraisal of junior staff; engage in medical audit and service development; participate in clinical trials where opportunities arise; develop non-clinical aspects of Rheumatology services; participate in undergraduate teaching of clinical medical students attached to the department.

Job responsibilities
