A leading UK hospital trust is seeking a Consultant in Clinical Oncology specializing in Lung and Pancreatic cancers. The role involves providing comprehensive care, participating in teaching and research, and working within a multi-disciplinary team. Required qualifications include FRCR and GMC registration. Requiredto fill this new, 10 PA postwith a special interest in Lung and Pancreatic cancer, delivering both systemictherapy and radiotherapy. The post will support established and experiencedmulti-disciplinary non-surgical Oncology Lung and Upper GI teams. The Lung workwill be delivered both at the Leeds Cancer Centre and at a peripheral TrustCalderdale and Halifax Foundation Trust. The Pancreas work will be based at theLeeds Cancer Centre, St Jamess University Hospital.
Therewill be opportunities to contribute to Pancreas and Lung MDTs and departmentalmeetings, as well as teaching, research and service developments. This is anexciting time to join our Lung and Upper GI services as we are currentlylooking at pathway redesigns and developing the services and the wider team.

Thesuccessful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be includedon the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Applicants should haveestablished skills in Clinical Oncology and its related specialties, includingLung and Pancreatic cancers. A strong commitment to undergraduate andpostgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

This is a 10 PAconsultant appointment for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist, with a specialinterest in Lung and Pancreatic cancers. The Lung service work in this postwould be based in Leeds and at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS FoundationTrust, one of our WYATT partners. The Pancreas service work in this post wouldbe based at the Leeds Cancer Centre, Bexley Wing, St James University Hospital.
The post holder willprovide non-surgical management, radiotherapy and SACT for patients with lungand pancreatic cancers. The successful candidate will work alongside thenon-surgical Oncology Lung team led by Dr Pooja Bhatnagar (supported by Dr KevinFranks, Dr Katy Clarke, Dr Peter Dickinson, Dr Mark Teo and Dr Alison Young),and Upper GI Clinical Oncologist Rebecca Goody (supported by Natalie Casanova, EldhoJoseph). The Lung service receives approximately 963 new patient referrals peryear for radiotherapy treatment. The Pancreas service receives approximately 36new patient referrals per year for radiotherapy treatment. The expectation isthat the post holder will manage approximately 18 new patient referrals peryear in the Pancreas service, and approximately 126 new patients per year inthe Lung service.
As part of the Trustsresource commitment, the post holder will have access to secretarial assistanceas required and will be supplied with adequate office space and IT equipment tosupport fulfilling their job plan.
The Bexley Wing is one ofthe largest oncology facilities in the UK, within one of the largest acutegeneral hospitals in Europe. There are350 beds, day-care and out-patient facilities and a patient hotel. The BexleyWing incorporates services in non-surgical oncology, haematology, the AcademicUnit clinical offices and support areas and substantial services in cancersurgery. There is a dedicated Clinical Research Facility for patients inearly-phase clinical trials.
Clinical and MedicalOncology are based in the Bexley Wing and run as an integrated service within asingle bed base, and integrated site specialist teams. The service providescomprehensive non-surgical oncology services to the Trust and to the populationof West and the majority of North Yorkshire.They are key components of the Leeds Cancer Centre. There is a hub and spoke arrangement with thesurrounding cancer units in Airedale, Bradford, Dewsbury, Halifax, Harrogate,Huddersfield, Pontefract, Wakefield and York.This covers a population of approximately 2.7 million. In addition, there are other tertiaryreferrals from a more extensive catchment area from East Yorkshire, EastLancashire and North Yorkshire.
The Leeds radiotherapyservice treats over 7000 new patients a year with radiotherapy. The departmenthas twelve linear accelerators. There are three CT simulators and an MRIsimulator. The building houses a dedicated brachytherapy suite containing two theatres.Shielded treatment rooms on the wards support unsealed source therapy. Thereare dedicated clinical cancer research facilities with beds and a nursingresearch team. The links to the Academic Unit of Cancer Medicine are strong andthere are world class molecular oncology labs and research programmes on site.The Leeds radiotherapy service has a workforce which includes 135radiographers, 10 nurses, 32 clinical scientists and 62 clinical technologists.
