Management of outpatients is split into the Liver and Luminal teams. There is an excellent day‑case unit exclusively for GI services, along with 3 Hepatology specialist nurses, enabling ambulatory care for patients with liver disease including nurse‑led early discharge clinic, monitoring and assessment of acute and chronic liver disease and day‑case paracentesis. Candidates should be independent in OGD and candidates trained in colonoscopy who wish to continue with this could be accommodated. Training is an important element of our practice at Torbay and the new colleague would be encouraged to engage with the delivery of courses and in‑house training.

  • Contribute to the training of trainee staff and medical students.
  • Undertake clinical and/or educational supervision of trainees.
  • Undertake CME/CPD according to Royal College of Physicians requirements.
  • Actively contribute to clinical governance within the organisation.
About us

The Gastroenterology unit is lively, innovative and cohesive. South Devon is an area of exceptional natural beauty, with outstanding opportunities for dryland and water‑based activities and a very mild climate. Schools in the area are excellent in both state and private sectors, with a selective grammar school system.

We offer a generous relocation package, which can be discussed with the successful candidate.

Gastroenterology currently sits within the Planned Care and Surgery Care Group, helping to better use capacity and reduce duplication.

Our vision is better health and care for all, and we are proud pioneers of innovation in health and social care.

In the past eighteen months we have opened brand‑new facilities on the Torbay Hospital site including a £15 m acute medical unit, a £4.99 m endoscopy training centre, a £15 m day surgery and eye surgery unit. Torbay Hospital is an academy site of the virtual South West Endoscopy Training Academy (SWETA), delivering nationally recognised endoscopic skills and simulation training.

We are inclusive and value diversity. Our compassionate leadership approach and culture charter create a great place to work where everyone belongs.
