Job description
Consultant Dermatologist

The closing date is 18 January 2026

The successful candidate will be based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant, and will spend time at Prince Charles Hospital and Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda. They will complement the existing dermatology service across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and be expected to provide on average 7 clinical sessions per week. The dermatology consultants rotate between outpatients, ward work and subspecialty sessions, allowing protected time for audit, research and teaching and facilitating the development of the dermatology service. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to service mapping and to service redesign within the new Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
  • Sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.
  • Conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Directorates and Health Board service plans.
  • Maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the directorate, and the Health Board.
  • Ensure provision of a first‑class clinical service.
  • Deliver care in the acute hospital setting.
  • Participate in CPD including audit.
  • Serve as a teaching and training role for medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Act as educational supervisor for junior and middle‑grade medical staff.
  • Undertake regular multidisciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence‑based medicine.
  • Ensure effective communication processes for all clinical stakeholders.
  • Make stakeholders aware of the range of services available, the standard to which they operate, and the evidence base to support their use.
  • Ensure understanding of the service vision and its implications on their practice.
  • Enable contribution to the planning and evaluation of all services.

Knowledge, personal skills and abilities
  • Specific interest in skin cancer management.
  • Experience and desire to lead skin cancer MDT.
  • Proven clinical ability to a high standard.
  • Evidence of papers presented at national or international meetings.
  • Sub‑specialisation and special interests within dermatology.
  • Proven leadership qualities in previous posts.
Education/Qualifications and training
  • MRCP(UK) or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • An appropriate higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD or equivalent).
Experience
  • Working knowledge/experience of the NHS.
