Job summary
We are delighted to advertise a consultant clinical psychologist post for the over 18s Central Norfolk Children and Young Persons Youth Service in the Central Norfolk Locality.
The role will be especially focused on the development of our Personality Disorders, and Complex Emotional Needs Pathway; the assessment and treatment of service users accessing this Pathway; waiting list management and supervision of staff.
The CYP services in Central Norfolk provide specialist mental health interventions to young people up to 25 in the central Norfolk area, as well as providing specialist intervention to Looked After and Adopted Children across Norfolk and Waveney.
Responsibilities
- Undertake direct clinical work, especially where it may be particularly complex or sensitive issues involved.
- Provide highly developed and highly complex assessments of service users, carers, and families, using and interpreting highly complex psychological data from a variety of sources, e.g. neuropsychological and psychometric assessments.
- Formulation and implementation of highly complex psychological treatment and/or management plans.
- Provide clinical supervision as appropriate to the grade of the post and supervisee.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Consultant Psychologist, Service Managers and other senior clinicians in the development and implementation of a strategy within the Locality/Specialist Service.
- Participate as a senior clinician in the development of high quality, responsive and accessible services for service users, carers, and families within the Locality/Specialist Service, including advising both professional and service management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.
- Support workforce planning, recruitment, and staff development within the Locality/Specialist Service.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Consultant Psychologist in the governance of psychological practice within the Locality/Specialist Service.
Qualifications
Essential
- Training in clinical psychology at post-graduate doctoral level, as accredited by the BPS (British Psychological Society) or equivalent.
- Registration with the Health and Care professions Council as Practitioner Psychologist.
Desirable
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
Experience
Essential
- Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist.
- Experience of working with service users within the designated specialty.
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for service users' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.
- Experience of teaching, training professional and clinical supervision.
Desirable
- Experience of managing performance and grievance issues.
- Experience of leading change within a service or organisation.
- Experience of implementing clinical governance procedures.
- Experience of working as a Consultant Psychologist; experience of managing staff.
- Experience of delegated responsibility regarding the management of budgets.
Skills
Essential
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
- A high level ability to communicate complex information effectively.
- Ability to produce reports and documents for Boards and Committees using relevant technology to present complex data and strategy with clarity.
- Formal training in supervision of psychologists and/or other psychological professionals.
- Ability to inspire and engage staff and encourage improvement, innovation, and development.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Ability to lead, motivate and influence both internally and externally, building and maintaining collaborative and trusted relationships.
- Ability to be flexible and work under pressure.
- High degree of autonomy and decision-making.

- Skills and experience of using leadership models and the application of models of change at a service level.
Knowledge
Essential
- Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.
- Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice in relation to service users in the designated specialty and mental health generally.
- Knowledge of integrated governance/quality governance.
