About Home-Start Wokingham District

Home-Start Wokingham District (part of Home-Start UK) supports ordinary parents, carers and families going through extraordinary times. We recruit and train volunteers to deliver a weekly home-visiting service offering practical and emotional support to families with a child under 5, as well as providing group support out and about in the community. Support from Home-Start has been described as ‘armbands in deep water’, offering a lifeline to parents who feel overwhelmed and in need of support, reassurance and friendship.

About the role

The role of Community Fundraising and Engagement Co‑Ordinator will join our small but mighty staff team, overseeing our community fundraising activities, as well as social media, marketing and community engagement. This is an exciting time to join Home-Start Wokingham District - we've recently secured funding from the National Lottery to support the vital services we offer to families, as well as beginning to develop new services to meet the changing need in the Borough. The postholder will be an ambassador for Home-Start Wokingham District, working to raise funds to support the organisation’s and build awareness of our work in the local community. In this role, you’ll provide outstanding stewardship to community supporters, organise events and fundraising opportunities, as well as maximise our marketing for both fundraising and awareness raising.

Roles and Responsibilities
Community Fundraising
  • Proactively establish and manage both new and existing relationships with supporters such as local businesses, schools, community organisations, local grant funders and individuals
  • Represent Home-Start Wokingham District at local events, giving presentations, effectively networking and talking to supporters about our work
  • Co-ordinate Home-Start Wokingham District’s presence at local community events, such as the Wokingham May Fayre and Wokingham Half Marathon
  • Design, test and run community fundraising initiatives, as well as collaborating on the organisation of Home-Start Wokingham Events e.g. golf days, open mornings and celebration events
  • Oversee stewardship of community and individual fundraisers, building engagement and maximising lifetime value
  • Assist the Operations Manager and Board of Trustees in developing multi‑year fundraising plans, and collaboratively track and forecast income and expenditure
Community Engagement
  • Manage Home-Start Wokingham District’s social media channels (currently Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram), co‑ordinating with colleagues to produce engaging and on‑brand content
  • Support the development of a marketing and communication strategy and use this to inform day‑to‑day work e.g. recruiting volunteers, raising awareness, reaching more families or raising funds
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers through regular contact and engagement events
  • Manage relationships with local media outlets and/or collaborators, building relationships in conjunction with the Operations Manager
  • Constantly try and test new ideas, keeping up with the latest trends and identifying ways that Home-Start Wokingham District can benefit
  • Identify and implement new communication methods to improve engagement, in consultation with the Operations Manager
General
  • Be a flexible and supportive member of the Home-Start Wokingham District Team
  • Support the implementation and continual review of all Home-Start policies and procedures
  • Comply with administration, monitoring and financial systems
  • Act as an ambassador for Home-Start Wokingham District, and the families that we support, and support the local, regional and national development of the Home-Start
  • Although this is a role that does not require direct interaction with beneficiaries, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility & the successful candidate will be required to complete safeguarding training

Who are we looking for?

Alongside a clean driving licence, and ability to undertake an enhanced DBS check, the ideal candidate must have:

  • Experience in managing and developing relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience working in a fundraising, marketing, communications or social media role, or demonstrable transferable skills
  • An understanding of the voluntary/charity sector
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Good IT skills with a demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases
  • Experience of leading a project, planning process, event or similar
  • Willingness and ability to attend events in the evenings and at weekends (compensated with TOIL)

The ideal candidate could also have:

  • Experience of working in a charity in any capacity
  • Experience of working with children and families, and an understanding of the needs of families with young children
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues, legislation and processes
  • Experience collating information and preparing reports
  • Experience presenting and/or attending networking events
