Communications Systems Engineer

Programme Name: Maritime

Location: Farnborough, with flexibility to work from home or customer site dependent on business demands.

Salary: £47,600 - £61,000

The Role:

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Communications Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for a technically curious individual eager to contribute to system design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimisation. The successful candidate will work on implementation of platform critical systems, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability, with opportunities to grow and develop expertise in advanced technologies.

You will work closely with naval architects, EW specialists, and systems integration teams to deliver mission‑critical connectivity.

What will I be doing?
  • IP Configuration and design: Design, Implement, Configure and manage IP‑based networks and systems to ensure seamless connectivity and performance.
  • System and Equipment Fault Finding: Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in systems and equipment to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
  • Stores Processing: Manage inventory, equipment tracking, and logistics related to system components, ensuring accurate documentation and availability of resources.
  • Manufacture: implement Build processes, configurations management and quality control.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support system design, integration, testing, and deployment.
  • Document system designs, processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps to maintain clear and accurate records.
  • Assist in routine system maintenance, upgrades, and system performance monitoring.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and organisational standards during all technical operations.
What knowledge does Leidos need from me?
  • MANET, UHF, VHF, TSM/TSM‑X, Bands and waveforms, TX power, antennae selection and RF modelling.
  • SATCOM/MILSAT.
  • Radio voice (RoIP & Intercom) and data (PLI and DED‑connected) configurations.
  • Radio crypto management Type 1 and non‑Type1 (AES).
  • FMV over radio.
  • CCNA level networking (TCP/IP switching, routing, multicast).
  • WinOS and Android, hypervisors (VMware/HyperV).
  • TAK suite (WinTAK/ATAK).
  • FMV distribution.
  • Mid‑advanced understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS).
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools for hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Experience with technical documentation and reporting.
It would be great (but not essential) if you had:
  • Familiarity with Personal Role Radios (PRRs) and their configuration or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) systems, including setup, testing, troubleshooting and knowledge of radio propagation.
  • Exposure to ATAK (Android Tactical Assault Kit) integration or similar tactical communication systems.
  • Communicate complex ideas to the layman.
Clearance Requirements:
  • Clearance to Start - BPSS
  • Clearance for Role - SC
  • Must be UK Citizen holding or able to hold SC clearance
