Data Protection Officer

Location: Force Communications Centre, St Asaph, North Wales

Contract: 9‑12 month contract with possible extension

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, 9am‑5pm

Pay Rate: £13.10 PAYE per hour / £17.27 LTD per hour

Start Date: 16th February 2026 for the 1st intake & 30th March 2026 for the 2nd intake

About the Role

North Wales Police is looking for professional and calm individuals to join our Force Communications Centre as Communications Operators. In this fast‑paced role, you’ll be the first point of contact for the public, resolving enquiries, coordinating emergency response, and working with a range of internal and external agencies to ensure public safety.

This is an office‑based role, offering an excellent opportunity to gain experience in operational policing and develop key communication and problem‑solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and resolve public enquiries in line with force policy.
  • Provide accurate advice, taking ownership of issues and managing expectations.
  • Analyse and assess information to provide safe and effective deployment recommendations.
  • Record and update information accurately in multiple police systems.
  • Liaise with external agencies, other emergency services, and internal teams.
  • Direct police units to incidents using intelligent deployment based on skills, location, and priority.
  • Maintain incident logs, task appointments, and provide administrative support as needed.
  • Assist in special events or major incidents across Operational Support Services.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Communication, Business, Customer Service, or relevant experience.
  • Typing ability of 25‑30 words per minute.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Intermediate IT skills, including experience with Windows systems.
  • Problem‑solving abilities and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Good geographical knowledge of North Wales.
  • Welsh language skills – Level 4 (verbal) desirable.
