Overview

Committee Member Greater Manchester Independent Police Ethics Committee

Length of Term: Two years. Allowances: Members receive an allowance of £1,000, and an attendance allowance of £211.50 per day or £104.50 per half day, along with reasonable expenses. This allowance is in line with Home Office guidance.

What is the Greater Manchester Independent Police Ethics Committee?

The committee plays a vital role in supporting Greater Manchester Police’s strategy to build public trust and confidence. It was established in 2014 and was the first of its kind in the UK. The committee is made up of community members and independent experts from a range of fields including law, health, business, academia, and community engagement. Members volunteer their expertise to provide advice and challenge on the complex ethical issues facing modern policing.

To apply to become a member of Greater Manchester’s Independent Police Ethics Committee, please upload your current CV along with a cover letter setting out why you want to be a member of the committee and what skills you can bring to the role.

We are committed to ensuring that the committee is representative of Greater Manchester’s geography and diversity. Applications close at 5pm on Friday 10th October 2025.

Shortlisting will take place week commencing 15th October.

Interviews will take place on Wednesday 12th November.

Successful candidates, subject to reference checks and cleared GMP Police Vetting, will then be invited for induction meetings.
