Job description

Redwood is very excited to be working with a leading global academic publishing organisation which is looking to hire 2 Commissioning Editors to join their Content Acquisition Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the commissioning of high-quality articles, ensuring a steady pipeline of published material across a range of diverse medicine and health journals. These roles are offered on a hybrid basis with at least 3 days a week in their London office.

This role will involve undertaking detailed analysis of academic fields and growth areas, understanding the breadth of research outputs in those areas and engaging with researchers, building relationships with the research community and will work closely with the Journal Editors and Editorial Boards, as well as internal editorial teams.

About the role

In this pivotal position, you will:

  • Commission High-Quality Articles: Drive article submissions across a portfolio of medicine and health journals.
  • Conduct In-Depth Analysis: Regularly analyse academic fields and growth areas to identify opportunities for new content.
  • Engage with Researchers: Build relationships within the research community and promote the benefits of publishing with our client.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with journal editors, editorial boards, and internal teams to ensure seamless content delivery.

Key responsibilities:

  • Uphold editorial policies and continually enhance your knowledge of subject areas.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Background: Relevant academic or working experience in medicine and health disciplines; experience in academic/STM journals publishing is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong analytical abilities, effective prioritization, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Educated to degree level: Ideally in a scientific subject
  • Ability to work well with local and global colleagues at all levels
  • Interest in Open Science: A genuine interest in open access, open data, and publishing and related matter.
