As part of the expansion of the service, Hounslow NHS Talking Therapies is seeking three CBT therapist to join our friendly, values-driven service. Newly qualified therapists with BABCP-accredited training are encouraged to apply--Band 7 salary applies upon confirmation of qualification.

Main duties of the job

You'll provide a specialist and caring CBT service to our clients who are primarily suffering mild to moderate mental health problems, including anxiety and depression. This will include providing specialist CBT therapy, facilitating CBT groups and supporting PWPs to facilitate community and/or in-house workshops.

In addition, this role also involves providing advice on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and carers, and supervising other colleagues including trainee therapists and PWPs and trainees from other professional groups as appropriate.

You will be based in the Isleworth Centre team base and Health Centres in the London Borough of Hounslow, as well as home working.

This role will include working with people from different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary, and you will be passionate about providing an equal opportunity for all clients to access our services.

Qualifications & Training
  • Postgraduate doctoral level training in clinical or counseling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • Postgraduate training in another core mental health profession (nursing, occupational therapy) or equivalent experience plus a postgraduate diploma or higher degree in CBT
  • Professional registration with the appropriate Health Professions Council (HPC)
  • To be accredited by the BABCP as a provisionally or fully accredited practitioner, or to be able to achieve provisional practitioner accreditation with the BABCP within six months of starting in post
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
  • Fully accredited with the BABCP
Experience
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients within a Talking Therapies service
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups and presenting problems that reflect a range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
  • Experience of the application of CBT in different cultural contexts
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings. including outpatient, community, and primary care settings
Knowledge
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • Experience at working with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy at a specialist level
  • High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Knowledge of issues relating to primary and secondary care psychological therapies services
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc.)
Personal Qualities
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour
  • Able to work at least one evening session, until 8.00pm
  • Self-motivated, able to work autonomously and independently with confidence
  • Be aware of the limitations in own competencies and seek appropriate senior advice
