Qualifications

  • City of Guilds / BTEC qualification in engineering discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence required.

Role

Coded Pipe Welder Chargehand

Location

Skelmersdale, Lancashire

Rate of Pay

£22 - £25 per hour – Some flexibility of pay depending on experience

Hours of Work

7am – 4.30pm, Monday to Thursday and Friday 7am – 12pm. 30 mins unpaid lunch break. Overtime is paid after 42 hours at time and a half.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced coded Pipe Welder Chargehand to lead and deliver high-quality pipefitting and welding activities across high and low‑pressure piping systems. This role is critical to ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, in line with project schedules, company procedures, and industry regulations.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for supervising pipefitting personnel, coordinating daily activities, and ensuring all work is completed without risk to personnel, plant, or the environment.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
  • Take responsibility for the quality, quantity, and progress of work undertaken by the team.
  • Provide clear direction, mentorship, and support to develop team capability.
  • Attend site meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions, always contributing positively.
  • Provide timely progress updates and feedback to supervision.
Pipe Welding Duties
  • Complete all pipefitting and preparation work in accordance with company procedures, drawings, and job cards.
  • Select, measure, cut, bend, and prepare piping materials including stainless steel, carbon steel.
  • Prepare pipework and flanges for welding, ensuring correct alignment, orientation, gaps, and dimensional accuracy.
  • Install prefabricated pipe sections and small‑bore tubing on site.
  • Join piping systems using welding, soldering, threading, cementing, or fusion techniques as appropriate.
  • Inspect pipe preparations, tack welds, alignment, and straightness prior to welding.
  • Form piping from sheet metal when required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • City of Guilds / BTEC qualification in engineering discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • General storage vessels BS EN.
  • Pressure vessels PD5500 Cat 2 & 3.
  • Stainless and carbon steel pipework.
  • Coded welding to BSEN and ASME 1X.
