Company Overview

Teledyne Qioptiq is a leader in designing, developing, manufacturing, and supporting complex electro-optical components and systems, including solutions for military and aerospace applications such as Heads Up Displays, Helmet Mounted Displays, and space cover glass for satellites. We also produce energetic devices and subsystems, including Electronic Safe, Arm and Fire devices, Firing Modules, Ignition Safety Devices, and detonators.

Position Outline

The role involves establishing coating process plans aligned with VCPs from Vacuum Coating Development Engineers, investigating process issues, analyzing product cost variances, resolving technical problems, and implementing corrective actions to reduce defects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete process planning and routings using AX system
  • Support weekly cost margin investigations (KPIs)
  • Review coating status, specifications, and design files
  • Assess tooling requirements and place orders as needed
  • Review drawing configurations
  • Adjust batch sizes and chamber loading rules in collaboration with Optical Process Engineers
  • Assist with repeat and new order inquiries (AX Opportunities)
  • Address daily process issues and resolve production problems, focusing on quality issues (FRACAS, Problem Solving A3)
  • Support standard work processes (GEMBA, TIER Meetings, MRB, FRB)
  • Operate coating equipment to support production ramp-up and chamber commissioning, including sign-offs of VCPs

Personal Specification:

All candidates must have:

  • Understanding of coating principles
  • Strong educational background and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and scientific methods
  • An engineering or scientific background to communicate effectively with engineering and production teams
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge supported by Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Commercial awareness, confidence, professionalism, and excellent communication skills
  • Motivation, responsiveness, meticulous attention to detail

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical standards for high-precision manufacturing
  • Experience with continuous improvement and lean methodologies
  • Familiarity with interferometry, profilometry, polishing materials, and processes
  • Relevant engineering qualifications
  • Experience with AS9100/ISO9001 quality standards
