Job description

Business: emap

Brand: Nursing Times

Base Location: Fleet street, London / Hybrid

Employment Type: Permanent, Part-time 22.5 hours per week

Salary: £18,250

emap is a progressive media, content, events, subscription, and networking business. We connect influential people and organisations to a high-value network of decision‑makers, data, and ideas through our industry‑leading business‑to‑business portfolio of brands.

Our unrivalled relationships with experienced and highly skilled professionals in niche industries are of high value and interest to companies looking to influence and engage decision makers in those sectors. We deliver access to these highly sought‑after business professionals through award‑winning print and digital content, live events, intelligence services and recruitment solutions.

Nursing Times is the UK’s leading independent nursing title and brand, with a website that is updated daily and a print edition that is published monthly.

Established in 1905, Nursing Times has a strong legacy, reputation and place in the history of nursing, which we continue to build on and develop through innovative content ideas.

It is the go‑to resource for nurses seeking clinical articles, CPD, news, opinion and more to help them keep up to date with developments in nursing and the health and social care sector.

Nursing Times is the largest nursing website outside the US. In addition to daily news and regular opinion it contains a clinical archive of over 6,000 double‑blind peer reviewed articles on all aspects of nursing.

Nursing Times also runs a portfolio of award‑winning events, including awards, conferences, forums and careers fairs in support of the nursing and midwifery professions.

In 2018, Nursing Times was inducted into the Nursing Journal Hall of Fame.

Overall Purpose of the Role

Nursing Times publishes high‑quality clinical content primarily aimed at the UK nursing profession, much of which is submitted or commissioned from nurses.

However, we wish to begin generating more clinical content internally as well, which has led to the creation of this exciting new part‑time role for someone with the right combination of editorial and industry experience.

As a clinical writer, you will be primarily responsible for producing specialist content for a nursing and midwifery audience across a varied range of subjects, roles and settings.

You will work with the senior clinical editor and other colleagues to plan and execute writing clinical articles for Nursing Times that complement our extensive clinical content that is produced by external authors.

You will also manage the editorial side of commercial projects for Nursing Times, by working with clients to write sponsored features and coverage of sponsored events.

In addition, you are likely to work on developing editorial content for our careers section and potentially news articles on clinical subjects.

As this is a new post, you will have the rare opportunity to help shape and steer the development and scope of the Nursing Times clinical writer role.

The role will be part‑time, covering three days a week (equivalent to 22.5 hours), which will be ideally suited to someone seeking greater flexibility and better work‑life balance in their career.

  • Attending, when requested, external events, such as conferences and exhibitions, to generate ideas for content and establish contacts
  • Contributing content ideas, creative input and views
  • Working in collaboration with the clinical team, the wider Nursing Times editorial team and beyond
Skills and Experience
  • At least two years’ experience in a professional journalism role
  • Excellent written English and ability to understand and translate complex material
