Clinical Research Nurse/Practitioner - Fixed Term Contract
The closing date is 01 October 2025. Department: Research & Development. Hours: 7.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.

The dynamic and expanding research team at MKUH is seeking an experienced nurse or midwife with specialist knowledge and experience in Diabetes and Antenatal care to join us in delivering the Protect study. We are a team that values care, teamwork, and innovation, and we are looking for someone who shares these values to support clinics on Tuesdays. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting colleagues, current participants, and future recruits, with the post funded until May 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to develop your skills in research delivery, contribute to research that improves patient care, and gain valuable insight into how research drives improvements in clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within the Research Team at Milton Keynes NHS Foundation Trust, with a primary aim of promoting the entry of patients into trials. The purpose of the job is to lead within the R&D team promoting inclusivity, development and engagement whilst raising awareness of and developing collaborative networks to promote clinical research. Central to this role is increasing the number of patients recruited into trials in line with the National Institute for Health Research high level objectives.

Ensuring high standards of recruitment, education and monitoring of patients entering clinical trials and the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records is an essential aspect of this post. Along with delivery of the service level agreement with the Thames Valley & South Midlands Clinical Research Network (TVSMCRN).

Managing members of the research team, the post holder will ensure all Human Resource requirements are completed in a timely manner and the Healthroster accurately maintained.

Job responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities

Clinical

Strictly work within the NMC Code of Conduct and maintain clinical practice for revalidation.

Research

Implement, develop, and facilitate the running of trials as part of the research team within Milton Keynes University Hospital, including:

  • Support the team to review protocols to identify suitability and resource implications.

Administration

Use the NIHR CRN and NHS Trust computer systems/network and the internet.

Ensure that all data is handled according to the Data Protection Act and in a confidential, and where necessary anonymised, fashion.

Education and Training

Provide and receive complex information, analysing facts and interpreting outcomes. Cascading information to colleagues, patients and public in an appropriate manner.

Represent the Trust and the Research Department in meetings, conferences, symposia, and social media events as required.

Management and Leadership

Provide leadership and management for research nurses, midwives and associated staff.

Have a specialist knowledge across a range of subjects, ideally research being one of the areas.

Qualifications and knowledge
  • NMC Registered Adult Nurse with significant experience in a clinical field
  • Clinical Research Practitioner with a 2:1 or higher degree in a Life Science field and significant experience in clinical trials
