Overview

The post is central to the delivery of research in a NHS Trust and supports local services to deliver research projects on the NIHR portfolio. You will be responsible for the recruitment and follow-up of service users to research studies and will undertake study-related procedures, including assessment, planning and ongoing care of research participants throughout the study duration.

Main duties

The post of Research Nurse is based at Euston House, Telford, and involves travelling and working across the geographical area of Shropshire, Telford and The Wrekin, and potentially beyond.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
  • First level nursing degree/qualification with current NMC registration.
  • Appropriate years' experience as a registered nurse.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Able to line manage, train, and develop staff.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively to a wide multidisciplinary team and patients.
  • Ability to work independently and be an excellent team player.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel across geographical sites as required to meet service needs.
  • Adaptability to achieve objectives within changing environments.
  • Clinical skills: venepuncture, specimen collection, clinical observations, and assessments.

Training and Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse or Health Care Professional educated to degree level with post-registration experience.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
  • GCP Training.

Experience

  • Familiarity with research design processes.
  • Understanding of research methodology, production of research protocols, data collection and analysis.
  • Experience of working within research governance quality systems.
  • Working knowledge of Research Governance Framework.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, sponsor companies and funding organisations.
  • Patient-centered approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation and persuasion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with patients/carers to maximise understanding of research activities.
  • Initiative in organising or implementing new systems.

  • Able to meet the travel requirements of the post.
