Overview

The Oncology and Haematology Clinical Trials (OHCT) team manages clinical trials within Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTFT). The team has an excellent reputation nationally and globally in providing excellent patient care and putting safety at the core of practice. GSTFT values research; the work contributes to finding new cancer treatments and improving patients' quality of life.

As part of Kings Health Partners, the OHCT team comprises fifty-plus staff including Research Nurses, Clinical Research Practitioners, and the Safety & Support Team at Guys' and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. We work closely with the oncology and haematology medical teams to recruit patients to trials and monitor them closely throughout. We have a large portfolio of Phase II and III trials, split into teams for specific tumour groups. We also have a team dedicated to early phase trials and run weekly early phase clinics in the Clinical Research Facility. Our mission statement is "Improving treatment choice, clinical care and outcomes for cancer patients through innovation, dedication and excellence in clinical trials".

Responsibilities
  • As a band 5, you will have opportunity for training and career development within the specialty of Haematology research nursing.
  • You will work closely with experienced research nurses, doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team in caring for Oncology patients within clinical trials.
  • Identify patients suitable for clinical trials and support them and their families throughout their participation in clinical trials.
  • Manage a caseload of patients and provide duty of care in supporting them and their families throughout participation in clinical trials.
  • Work autonomously within professional practice guidelines and within the Research Governance Framework.
  • Provide a full administrative service to the tumour-specific research team, playing a pivotal role in the running of national and international phase I, II and III oncology trials.
  • Responsibilities include creation and maintenance of site files, formulating worksheets, collection and transcribing trial data, completing case report forms and maintenance of a database of trial activity.
