Applications are invited for a post in the Cancer Early Phase Trials Unit (CEPTU) within the Cancer Centre at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals. The position is available from October 2024 for an initial 12‑month period, with the possibility of a longer appointment for the right candidate.

This role is ideal for a specialist trainee in oncology wishing to extend their knowledge of Phase 1 trials and to develop expertise in cellular therapies. It provides opportunities to work with a diverse patient group, to participate in research alongside King’s College London laboratories, and to gain experience in clinical drug development in oncology.

Job Summary

The Clinical Fellow will work in the NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Guy's, providing support to patients in Phase 1 and early‑phase cell‑therapy trials. The post will also involve outpatient responsibilities in the Cancer Centre, participation in clinical governance and engagement in translational research collaborations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support trial patients and administer Phase 1 trials within the NIHR CRF, including the GMP Cell Therapy suite.
  • Attend and contribute to outpatient clinics and medical oncology activities as required.
  • Engage in translational research, including collaboration with KHP laboratories.
  • Provide clinical governance activities such as audit, protocol development and risk management.
  • Train and supervise junior doctors, nursing and allied health staff as per the agreed training plan.
  • Contribute to teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubs, imaging and pathology meetings, and other departmental educational activities.
Person Specification
Professional/Statutory Registration
  • Full GMC registration or eligibility for GMC sponsorship.
  • MRCP or equivalent.
Qualifications / Education
  • 4 complete years of postgraduate training, or equivalent if overseas.
Clinical Expertise
  • Experience in medical oncology disciplines.
  • Experience in clinical trials.
Audit / Management
  • Experience of medical audit.
  • Published medical audit in the field of medical oncology.
Academic Achievements
  • Publication in at least one peer‑reviewed journal.
  • Evidence of presentation at national or international conferences.

  • GMC‑approved English language qualification (if overseas candidate).
