Job summary

A regional NHS healthcare provider is seeking a Senior Musculoskeletal Clinical Fellow – Radiology to enhance their radiology team. The role involves independent reporting of MSK imaging and performing various diagnostic procedures. Job description
Job Overview

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a range of activity including clinical procedures and image interpretation. A key aspect of the role will be to develop specialist skills in image‑guided injections. The post holder will undertake specialist reporting of predominantly orthopaedic examinations with the support of consultant colleagues with the aim to become fully independent in reporting these examinations. In addition to clinical activity, the post holder will be expected to support audit and research. Applications are invited for a Senior Musculoskeletal Clinical Fellow – Radiology post to strengthen a team of 22 Consultant radiologists, 5 resident trainees minimum, and 3 clinical fellows at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust has excellent postgraduate and research facilities, supports study leave for CPD and provides assistance with funding up to an agreed limit. The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic, and negative COVID wards. There may be a requirement to cover radiology on call. This will be on a rotation with radiology fellows and registrars with Consultant Radiologist supervision. This post will run from the beginning of August 2026 until the end of July 2027. Key Responsibilities
  • Fully independent in reporting MSK X-rays, CT and MRI
  • Fully independent in performing MSK Ultrasound including therapeutic injections and biopsies
  • Fully independent in performing CT/MRI Arthrograms
  • Fully independent in performing fluoroscopic‑guided therapeutic injections
  • Fully independent in chairing and presenting at MDTs and informal clinico‑radiological meetings
  • Supervision of trainees' MSK practice
  • Supervision and support to other allied health professionals including Radiographers, Sonographers and Advanced Practitioners
  • Full participation in local teaching and lecture programmes
  • Full participation in audit and research
