We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our Hepatology services based at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. The role will involve the supervised management of inpatients and outpatients with liver disease, including patients with complex liver disease and those undergoing liver transplantation. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the out of hours registrar hepatology on call rota.

This role is a huge opportunity for anyone with the required skills and the enthusiasm to work within our highly performing regional liver unit and Institute of Transplantation to develop their skills in hepatology.

In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners with full MRCP and ideally experience in the management of liver disease.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve the management of inpatients and outpatients with liver disease, including patients with complex liver disease and those undergoing liver transplantation with consultant support. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the out of hours registrar hepatology on call rota.

Job responsibilities

Clinical:

To contribute to outpatient and inpatient specialist hepatology services, including managing recipients of liver transplants.

Participate in the hepatology registrar out of hours. This is currently a 1:8 rota.

Administrative:

To participate in audit and clinical governance activity related to hepatology in line with local and national guidance and requirements.

To participate constructively in departmental meetings.

To participate in continuing professional development, appraisal and risk management.

Patient related administration.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
  • Primary Medical Qualification.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • MRCP.
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
  • Evidence of experience in the specialty.
  • Evidence of a commitment to the specialty.
  • Able to work as part of a team but also independently.
  • NHS paid work experience (clinical attachments do not count).
  • Demonstrate evidence of some experience in management of complex liver disease, acute liver failure and liver transplantation.
  • Potential to undertake independent quality improvement projects or research.
Maintaining Clinical Competence
  • Written evidence of satisfactory training to date e.g. workplace assessments.
Teaching
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate medical students & Foundation Doctors.
  • Certificate/diploma in teaching.
Clinical Governance, Audit and Research
  • Experience of audit projects.
