Job summary

A children's healthcare charity in Cambridge seeks a dedicated Cleaner / Cook to maintain high cleanliness standards and prepare meals for families. The role includes cleaning duties, washing linens, and maintaining kitchen hygiene. Candidates should have experience in cleaning and meal preparation, along with high attention to detail. Working hours are 37.5 per week, including weekend shifts. The position offers a competitive salary along with enhancements for weekend work.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a cleaning / housekeeping role.
  • Experience of meal preparation preferably within a professional kitchen setting.
  • High standards of cleanliness and attention to detail.
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Carry out cleaning duties in line with hospice standards.
  • Wash, dry, and iron clothes, bed linen, towels, and soft furnishings.
  • Prepare and serve meals in line with food hygiene regulations.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and adhere to health and safety guidelines.

Hours:

37.5 hours per week

Working Pattern

Working 5 days over a 7 day working week

  • Includes regular weekend working on a rota basis, approximately 2 out of 4 weekends
Salary

£24,000 per annum + circa £2,000 per annum in weekend enhancements based on working 2 out or 4 weekends, rates as below :

Enhanced Rates - Weekends, Evenings & Bank Holidays
  • 30% Saturdays & Evenings
  • 60% Sundays & Bank Holidays

Join our team at East Anglia Children’s Hospices (EACH) and make a real difference.

We are looking for a dedicated Cleaner / Cook to become part of our small team, providing 7-day cover and ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for families and children who rely on our care.

As Cleaner / Cook your focus will be on cleaning duties, ensuring the hospice is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and comfort, whilst also taking responsibility for the kitchen on weekends, preparing and serving simple, home-style meals for families.

What you’ll do as Cleaner / Cook
  • Carry out cleaning duties in line with hospice standards.
  • Wash, dry, and iron clothes, bed linen, towels, and soft furnishings.
  • Maintain safe storage and use of cleaning materials in accordance with COSHH regulations.
  • Prepare and serve meals in line with food hygiene regulations, covering the kitchen during weekends and the covering when needed.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and adhere to health and safety guidelines.
