Seven Hills School has the following teaching vacancies.
Seven Hills School is an inspirational community, nurturing talents and celebrating life. The community is resourceful, centrally committed to providing outstanding teaching opportunities for all students. Students are challenged to achieve their full potential, and teaching is designed to inspire, create activity, curiosity, and engagement.
The school operates over three sites: Granville Road (S2) The Bridge (Talbot/Newfield campus, S8) and Peaks College, Waterthorpe Greenway (S20). The successful applicants will be based at the Granville Road site.
At Seven Hills School we promote curiosity and enthusiasm, encourage independent learning, and develop confidence for life beyond school. The curriculum is built on four foundations: ‘Communication, Language and Literacy’, ‘Cognition and Learning’, ‘Social and Emotional’, and ‘Physical and Sensory’. All foundations are closely connected, each complementing and facilitating the other. All students have independent learning priorities linked to these foundations.
The implementation of the curriculum is made accessible and appropriate by identifying a student’s needs and stage of development, ensuring the learning environment closely matches their needs. Our curriculum runs on three clear pathways, delivered through a personalised approach built upon the four foundations. Students are assessed before entering the school to determine the best pathway, enabling individual needs to be met through the inclusive curriculum. Pathways allow learning journeys to start from individual pupils’ current strengths and needs. The selected pathway depends on the student’s needs and long‑term goals. We avoid rigid placement and movement between pathways is possible following re‑evaluation.
We use the whole range of curriculum subjects to provide breadth of experience and opportunity, maximizing engagement, ensuring personalised access to learning, and supporting meaningful experiences. Teaching styles and pedagogy vary according to the students’ needs, with an emphasis on developing independence across all pathways.
Through our curriculum and extra‑curricular activities we develop students’ ability to manage emotions, relate to others, organise themselves, gather and use information, and think creatively and critically. We nurture, inspire, share learning and celebrate achievement.
In Pathway 1 students spend the majority of their time with their class teacher, based in their own classroom. The emphasis in Phase 1 is on basic skills and a wide variety of educational experiences.
In Pathway 2 students follow a sensory curriculum and learn best when related to concrete experience. Students establish positive relationships with familiar adults, explore the world using their sensory and physical capabilities, and establish behaviours to communicate with others. Learning is through structured and semi‑structured play, functional and topic‑based activities.
Pathway 2 focuses on communication, supporting preferred expressive and receptive methods. Implementation strategies include AAC, Zones of Regulation, play, intensive interaction, Makaton.
In Pathway 3 students follow the subject specific pathway, accessing National Curriculum subjects modified for developmental level and special educational needs. From Year 9 students may be entered for Entry Level exams, following the appropriate syllabus in each exam subject. AAC is embedded throughout the day. Many students find generalisation and abstract thinking difficult; practical activities aid learning, presented in multiple ways.
Students receive creative activities and opportunities to develop cognition and learning skills. Implementation strategies include AAC, zones of regulation, Makaton, colourful semantics, Blank Level Questioning, multisensory learning, SCERTS aspects.
