Job description
About the school

Are you a teacher that loves the outdoors? Do you want to provide learning experiences that are never forgotten? We are looking for a full time inspirational teacher with a passion for developing the whole child through immersive and meaningful learning. We have a wonderful school set in the heart of the Cornish countryside with fantastic grounds. As much as possible we like to use this valuable asset to enhance children's learning and we have recently developed our grounds with learning zones that act as extensions to the classroom. In addition we have two minibuses which are used regularly to transport children to three special outdoor locations in the local region and teachers are encouraged to make the most of the wealth of sites in Cornwall that can be visited to enrich the curriculum.

The curriculum

The curriculum itself has been carefully mapped out and is covered through topics with themed classrooms and end outcomes where children share their learning with wider audiences e.g. by creating a book, website or a pop up museum!

Values and skills

We also believe the skills of enquiry and reasoning are vital for lifelong learning and we place huge emphasis on nurturing and helping children to develop a strong moral compass. This is not to say the school does not value the importance of the core curriculum. Indeed we strive for the highest standards for all our children but believe this is best achieved by creating the necessary foundations; developing the whole child, building resilience and the ability to reflect before providing learning experiences that are exciting and awe inspiring.

Role overview

With this in mind we want an individual that can bring enthusiasm, creativity and compassion to our team and welcome all applicants that share our vision. The post is initially for a the Year 3 & 4 class but with a new incoming Headteacher it is quite possible the position could change to a Year 1 & class or even a Year 5 & 6 class. This is also the reason why the post is initially offered on a fixed term basis with it being high likely that the post will become permanent at the new Headteachers discretion. Being a small school any ability or aspiration to lead a subject would be welcome but we are primarily looking for an excellent classroom practioner but all candidates including ECTs will be considered

Application process

A visit to the school's website will help to give you a better idea of the school but there is no substitute for first-hand experience so visits are strongly recommended or for those further afield unable to get in a virtual tour with the headteacher could be arranged; it would also give an opportunity to discuss the possibilities described above.
