Job description
Overview

Are you an innovative finite element specialist with experience in the modelling and assessment of civil or structural engineering structures? Do you excel in developing complex technical solutions to deliver designs for ground‑breaking projects?

If you're a dynamic thinker who wants to contribute to the advanced numerical (finite element) analysis of steel and reinforced concrete (RC) structures, seismic, blast, and impact design, or if you're skilled in first principles engineering and problem solving, then you’ve come to the right place!

The Nuclear and Power civil and structural team is seeking candidates with advanced structural analysis skills, with experience in the post processing of data to carry out design and assessments. This role requires technical expertise for solving problems and will provide you with the opportunity to utilise and develop your skills supported by a diverse and vastly experienced team in our Bristol and Epsom offices. You will be working a minimum of 3 days per week from a Power New Build office or client office.

If you're looking to invigorate your career and enrich your portfolio with new projects such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, Rolls Royce Small Modular Reactor and others, particularly in the nuclear field, we invite you to join us.

Your role
  • You will be responsible for spearheading civil and structural work packages with specific requirements for advanced structural analysis to underpin the design and assessment of RC and steel structures.
  • You will liaise with clients to provide reports and technical updates while building strong relationships for longer term business development. Your work will be integral in helping to develop practical and cost‑effective solutions to external and internal clients and contribute to the development of staff and internal capabilities.
  • You may also be involved in project management duties such as monitoring budgets and programmes for technical work.
About you

You will be someone who meets the following criteria (desirable but not essential):

  • A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical/Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Ability to spearhead interactions with technical and non‑technical stakeholders as well as build professional relationships through your interpersonal skills with internal and external clients.
  • Experience carrying out advanced analysis on RC and steel structures.
  • Experience carrying out advanced examination for several load cases, including seismic, impact, blast and other.
  • Background in nuclear and/or other safety related industries (other fields will be considered on a case‑by‑case basis).
  • Proficient in the use of industry standard finite element analysis software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, LS‑DYNA or LUSAS).
  • Experience with scripting and automation, preferably using Python.
  • Technical rigour and focus on excellence.
  • Problem solving mindset.
  • Experience in checking, interpreting and questioning the outputs from analysis using first principles.
  • Experience in using UK, European and American nuclear industry codes and standards, with the ability to go beyond codified solutions where appropriate.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing engineers.
  • Chartership status or actively working towards it.
