Job summary

A leading recruitment agency seeks an experienced Civil Section Engineer to oversee a key segment of a utility-scale BESS project in Oxfordshire. Your role will involve managing civil construction tasks, providing technical support, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in civil engineering, particularly in renewable energy, along with strong organisational skills. This is a 12-month contract with potential for extension, outside IR35.

Role - Civil Section Engineer

Location - Oxfordshire

Mint Selection are working with a leading IPP who are seeking an experienced Civil Section Engineer to support the delivery of a utility‑scale BESS project in Oxfordshire.

Scope of Work
  • Take engineering ownership of a defined civil section of the BESS project, including earthworks, foundations, drainage, access roads, ducting, fencing, and compound infrastructure.
  • Oversee and coordinate day‑to‑day civil construction activities within your section, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and programme requirements.
  • Provide on‑site technical support and guidance to civil subcontractors and site teams, resolving construction queries and engineering issues as they arise.
  • Ensure all works comply with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards and CDM Regulations, promoting safe systems of work at all times.
  • Manage and review QA/QC documentation for your section, including Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), inspection requests, test results, and non‑conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Coordinate closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager, and other disciplines (electrical, mechanical, commissioning) to manage interfaces and avoid clashes.
  • Support National Grid and DNO interfaces relevant to the civil scope, including:
    • Foundations and infrastructure for grid connection assets
    • Cable route preparation and ducting works
    • Attendance at interface meetings, inspections, and walkdowns as required
  • Monitor progress against the programme, identifying risks, delays, or constructability issues and escalating where necessary.
  • Verify setting‑out, levels, and tolerances to ensure civil works are completed accurately and ready to receive high‑value electrical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including daily reports, inspections, permits, and red‑line / as‑built information.
  • Support section completion, snagging, and handover, ensuring all civil works are completed, verified, and documented to the required standard.
Experience to be Considered
  • Proven experience as a Civil Section Engineer or Site Engineer on renewable energy, substation, or infrastructure projects ideally including BESS or Solar PV developments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering works, including earthworks, concrete foundations, drainage, ducting, and cable route construction.
  • Experience managing civil‑electrical and grid interface works, particularly foundations and trenching associated with substations or grid connections.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC processes, including ITPs, inspections, test records, and NCR management.
  • Good working knowledge of HSEQ procedures, CDM Regulations, and safe systems of work.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage a defined scope independently and proactively.

This is a 12‑month contract, with the potential for extension, operating outside IR35.
