Job Title

Civil Construction Lead Engineer - UK

Location

Birmingham/Glasgow

We are seeking a Civil Construction Lead Engineer with expertise in temporary works design and implementation. This role is critical in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant civil construction activities across UK projects, particularly within substation environments.

What You Will Do
  • Verify the design for implementation of temporary works for civil construction projects.
  • Provide technical support during the tendering stage, ensuring accurate work sequencing and realistic durations.
  • Act as the primary reference point for design verification and on-site application.
  • Coordinate effectively between engineering, HSE, and site teams to ensure seamless execution.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and workflows for temporary works.
  • Review and produce construction documentation, including:
    • Traffic Management Plans (TMP)
    • Construction Phase Plans (CPP)
  • Ensure compliance with National Grid standards, including TPs, Ts, and SR.
  • Travel to project sites across the UK when required.
Experience Required
  • Experience in civil engineering works.
  • Proven experience in HV substations.
  • Proven expertise in temporary works design and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of National Grid technical procedures and safety requirements.
  • Strong understanding for the related civil standards, such as BS and building regulations.
  • Experience in producing and reviewing construction documentation and plans.
  • Strong civil engineering background.
  • Demonstrated strong record of site implementation and leadership, consistently delivering successful outcomes through effective team management and proactive resolution of onsite challenges.
  • Exceptional writing and documentation skills, ensuring that all workflows and procedures are clearly articulated, accurately maintained, and consistently updated to support project execution and compliance.
  • Proficient in industry-standard civil and structural design software (AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project), document management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite, with experience in digital workflow tools for efficient project delivery.
