Senior Cinematic Animator

UK Remote or West Midlands Based - Birmingham / Full-Time Contractor

Role And Purpose

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to play a central role in helping lead the creation of visually stunning and lifelike animated cinematics, both for Flix's own exclusive projects and alongside our high profile co-development partners. As a core component of our Animation team, you will utilise your technical abilities and creativity to craft immersive cinematic sequences, helping direct the overall animation direction and player experience. You'll be an enthusiastic and self‑motived team member who has a passion for making excellent game content. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, a solid work ethic and a positive, supportive attitude.

Responsibilities
  • Work with and guide the Animation team to design and create engaging and polished cinematic sequences - from concept to final implementation.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Art and Design Leads as well as your Animation team to establish and uphold the quality bar of the game's animation, ensuring a consistent and cohesive visual identity.
  • Help manage the day‑to‑day progress of animation development, supporting your team with project‑specific processes and problem‑solving.
  • Build upon and champion best pipeline practices for animation creation, optimisation and performance, ensuring animation meets visual quality standards and works smoothly across target platforms.
  • Work with the Production team to support the planning and delivery of animation content.
  • Lead by example, keeping an enthusiastic attitude for the project whilst motivating and supporting a diverse team.
  • Participate in staff interviews, onboarding, mentorship programmes and performance reviews, fostering skill development and artistic growth.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and animation pipeline to continually push the boundaries of game animation and contribute fresh ideas to the team.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions and feedback on game design and animation requirements.
Requirements
  • Professional experience in a Senior Animator role for games, with a strong showreel demonstrating cinematic sequences with exceptional storytelling, composition and cinematography skills and the ability to create emotionally impactful animation sequences using Unreal's Sequencer (or similar).
  • High level of understanding of game animation content creation for Unreal Engine, including the full rigging, skinning, animation and implementation process.
  • High proficiency in relevant industry‑standard software including Maya, Blender or equivalent.
  • A creative eye and care for animation direction in your own work and the work of your team.
  • Excellent understanding of animation fundamentals such as weight, timing and posing, as well as understanding of character anatomy, movement and performance principles.
  • Strong support‑focused interpersonal skills, able to communicate, collaborate and mentor effectively.
  • Able to manage your time effectively, delegating and prioritising based on project need.
  • A passion for gaming and a commitment to delivering visually stunning and captivating gaming experiences.
Desirable Skills
  • Shipped at least one title in a Senior position, within a relevant animation production pipeline
  • Knowledge of Unreal's Sequencer (or similar) for cinematic animations, with a solid understanding of composition and cinematography.
  • Experience animating special effects.
  • Experience with motion capture technology and data cleaning/editing processes.
