Founded in 1936 Wellcome is a politically and financially independent global charitable foundation dedicated to supporting research to improve health based in London UK. It funds its work with the returns from an investment portfolio which is managed in-house and currently stands at vision is a healthier future for everyone which it works to achieve through its mission of supporting science to solve the urgent health challenges facing everyone.

Wellcome's strategy centres on programmes that enable the funding of research advocating for change and engaging people. Under the current strategy Wellcome has identified three urgent health challenges facing everyone: Climate and Health, Infectious Diseases and Mental Health which need a solutions focussed approach. It is also deeply committed to funding and supporting open-ended curiosity-driven discovery research that generates new knowledge insights and understanding about life health and wellbeing.

Reporting directly into the CEO, the Chief Strategy Officer will be a member of the Executive Committee and will lead the development and delivery of Wellcome's strategy, identifying objectives based on strategic analysis, external insight and driving measurable impact to align our activity across strategic programmes and departments to deliver our mission.

The successful candidate will shape, evolve and monitor Wellcome's strategy through effective partnership with the wider Executive Committee to drive integration ensuring Wellcome's portfolio of programmes are consistent, coherent and positioned to maximise our impact in science and health.
