Job description
Overview

An opportunity to join the Cardiac Investigations team at Whittington Health NHS Trust, North London. We are seeking a Cardiac Physiologist to work as a Chief Cardiac Physiologist specialising in Adult and Paediatric echocardiography. A degree in cardiac physiology or other relevant qualifications with experience in adult and paediatric echocardiography is required. BSE or equivalent echo accreditation is highly desirable. The department provides non-invasive diagnostic investigations for inpatients and outpatients and supports Paediatric services with a weekly paediatric echo list. There is opportunity for training in pacemaker follow up and involvement in training junior physiologists and medical staff. CPD funding is provided by the Trust.

Main duties of the job
  • Perform and report adult and paediatric echocardiograms.
  • Perform, supervise, and report cardiac exercise testing for hospital consultants and open access GP requests, considering contraindications for exercise testing.
  • Perform and report pacemaker checks.
  • Perform 24-hour Holter ECG, blood pressure and event recorder monitoring (procedure and analysis).
  • Train physiologists and medical staff in all areas of cardiac physiology.
Responsibilities

As a Chief Cardiac Physiologist, you will contribute to the department’s non-invasive diagnostic services and support to Paediatric services, with opportunities for training and professional development as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • BSc cardiac physiology or equivalent
  • BSE accreditation or equivalent
  • Ability to recognise situations requiring medical involvement
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data to standard for the grade
  • Up-to-date knowledge in performing and reporting adult and paediatric echocardiography

Desirable

  • Paediatric echocardiography experience
  • ILS certification
Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Performing and reporting adult echocardiograms
  • ECG performance and interpretation
  • Analysis of Holter recordings

Desirable
