We are looking for an enthusiastic and determined, forward thinking pharmacy technician to join our clinical pharmacy team.
The successful candidate will participate in the delivery of a patient focused, clinical service to patients receiving chemotherapy treatment. The postholder will receive full training to be able to assess patients and administer systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT). They will support the governance and patient safety program in designated areas. They will participate in pre-assessment clinics for patients having SACT, support accuracy checking roster and the weekend and bank holiday roster.
Key to this will be developing the role of the clinical technician, looking at innovative ways to improve medicines optimisation for our patients
There will be opportunities to lead on quality improvement and service evaluation projects. In addition to the potential to develop clinically though vocational and accredited training courses and sessions.
This post is based at the Hexham General Hospital although there is an expectation that the post holder would work closely with colleagues at all sites to support continuing patient care and flow. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the weekend rota and cover accuracy checking slots.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England.
We have five oncology day units within the Trust.
We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. To provide technical support on pharmaceutical matters, medicines management issues and medicines legislation within a delegated area of responsibility on a routine basis, but also, whenever required, to other specialist areas e.g. ward/clinical setting, aseptic services. The role will require team working as part of the many multidisciplinary teams as outlined above, as well as a need to be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
To deliver on a delegated area of responsibility on a departmental basis e.g. Health and Safety, management of patients on chemotherapy, staff rosters, over-labelling or emergency drug cupboard.
To participate in a weekend pharmacy service and relevant bank holidayarrangements (unless otherwise agreed upon appointment).
